Driving the Ha Giang Loop by yourself

You can choose to ride the Ha Giang Loop completely by yourself or join a tour. If you have an international driving license with a valid motorcycle license then you are officially allowed to drive a motorbike (a motorbike in Vietnam is considered a motorcycle in the Netherlands because it goes over 50cc, often they are 125cc). Therefore, if you possess both an international driver’s license and a motorcycle license, you can ride the Ha Giang Loop by yourself. You can then choose to stay in the same homestays at night with the tour operators of the Ha Giang Loop. That way you do have the fun in the evening but can keep your own route and pace during the day.

Ha Giang Loop route

You can choose to ride the Ha Giang Loop in 3 or 4 days. We recommend 4 days if you have the time, then you can drive the entire route. If you do it in 3 days you cut off a piece and don’t see the very best part on day 3. Also you will not swim in a waterfall and you will not stay in the most beautiful homestay (on day 3).

Conclusion
For us, the Ha Giang Loop was the absolute highlight of Vietnam because of the insane views, fun group and sociability. Every day is special and you will have ultimate enjoyment
